Vegan milk brand Silk has pledged to donate $75,000 to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational fund – one of America’s top legal firms that are ‘fighting for racial justice’.

The brand took to social media to support the Black Lives Matter movement – which has recently been propelled into the mainstream following the killing of George Floyd.

‘Not the time for silence’

On Instagram, Silk wrote: “Now is not the time for silence. We’ve been listening, learning, and reflecting on what we can do better now and in the long-term to make progress toward a more inclusive world.

“We are dedicated to being active participants in driving the critical changes needed for racial equality in our society.”

Black Lives Matter. The killings of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery are painful reminders of the long-standing racial injustice and discrimination in our country. Silk stands with the Black Lives Matter movement and all those working toward justice. It’s long past time for change. Now is not the time for silence. We’ve been listening, learning and reflecting on what we can do better now and in the long-term to make progress toward a more inclusive world. We are dedicated to being active participants in driving the critical changes needed for racial equality in our society. Silk will be donating $75,000 to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, but money cannot erase the discrimination Black communities have faced for centuries. This is only the first step in our ongoing commitment to support systemic change. We welcome your ideas and feedback on how we can better show up and drive real change. We see you. We hear you. We stand with you. #NAACPLDF #EnoughisEnough

The company added that the donation ‘cannot erase the discrimination Black communities have faced for centuries’ but said it was the company’s first step in its ‘ongoing commitment to support systemic change’.

“We welcome your ideas and feedback on how we can better show up and drive real change. We see you. We hear you. We stand with you,” the brand added.
