University of Connecticut basketball player Gabby Williams has touted the benefits of a plant-based diet, saying that physically, ‘everything feels better’.
The 21-year-old athlete – who led UConn against defending Division II national champion Ashland in the Huskies’ final preseason game last Sunday – said that realizing one’s diet is just as important as the way one trains was a ‘wake-up call’.

Williams told outlet New Haven Register: “Just paying attention and being more conscious of what I am putting into my body.
“I’ll notice differences in my energy level, the way I sleep, the way I sweat and overall everything feels better.”
The sportswoman, who began following the diet when she was headed into her junior season, admitted she is not as health ‘conscious’ during off-season.
“In the offseason I don’t eat whatever but am a little less conscious of it, but during the season, I don’t eat any animal by-products.
“In practice, I just never felt good and it was kind of a wake-up call that your diet is just as important as the way you train.”
