The vegan athlete and advocate Dominick Thompson announced he will feature on a new episode of the US reality tv show, Duck Dynasty.
Dom announced the news on his Instagram account and teased the episode was ‘dropping soon’.
‘When #DuckDynasty meets #Veganism’
On the post, Dom thanked the family and said: “For the record, this was a healthy and beautiful experience.”
He praised them for having ‘an open mind’.
Speaking after the announcement, Dom said: “It was a healthy and beautiful experience and I truly feel some seeds were planted.”
What is Duck Dynasty?
The show follows the lives of the Robertson family in Louisiana. They made their fortune off the family-run business, Duck Commander, which makes products for duck hunters.
Positive response
The news was met with a largely positive response on social media.
Korie Robertson, who features on the show, commented: “Loved having you in our home! Telling everyone just how good that bowl was. Let us know when your restaurant opens.”
Reality TV shows and vegan controversy
Several reality television shows have faced backlash from vegans and animal rights activists in the past.
There have been a mass of calls to end the use of live insects during I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here trials.
One user commented on Dom’s Instagram post: “I used to think this show was hilarious until they killed a duck in front of a bunch of kids.”
“I never watched the show and never knew that happened but we certainly discussed hunting and animal rights and they were open to hearing my perspective. So, progress was made”, Dom responded.
