Twentieth Century Fox will be releasing a film with an animal-friendly message next month.

The movie, called Ferdinand, will debut in theaters across the States on December 15.

‘Heartwarming’

According to a spokesperson: “Ferdinand [which is based on The Story of Ferdinand by Munro Leaf and Robert Lawson] tells the story of a giant bull with a big heart.

“After being mistaken for a dangerous beast, he is captured and torn from his home [to be used in bullfighting]. Determined to return to his family, he rallies a misfit team on the ultimate adventure.

“Set in Spain, Ferdinand proves you can’t judge a bull by its cover.

“[The movie is] a heartwarming animated comedy adventure with an all-star cast that includes John Cena, Kate McKinnon, Gina Rodriguez, Anthony Anderson and many more.”

Adopted

In an exciting move, the studio has teamed up with a vegan sanctuary to adopt a bull calf – who has been named Ferdinand.

Ferdinand will live at The Gentle Barn in Santa Clarita, CA.

Ellie Laks, Founder of The Gentle Barn, said: “The Gentle Barn is a place of healing, where children learn that even though we might look different on the outside, we’re all the same on the inside.

The Story of Ferdinand is so important, because it represents the universal idea that each one of us deserves a chance to be who we really are.”

Raising awareness

She added: “For almost 20 years, The Gentle Barn has been working with animals and children who share similar stories of struggle and perseverance and it feels amazing to be partnering with a major, mainstream studio, who is distributing a movie that inspires so much positive messaging of love, courage and triumph.

“My hope is that Ferdinand will not only raise awareness, but will bring about great change in the way people think.

“To point, this project has allowed us to save the life of a young bull who will grow into a symbol of hope for future generations to know.”
