Super Bowl star Tom Brady has been praised for eating a ‘mostly plant-based diet’.
The American quarterback plays for Tampa Bay Buccaneers of the NFL. Last night, the team won the Super Bowl for the second year running.
Recently, the NFL player was commended by Clueless star Alicia Silverstone for being vocal about his plant-heavy diet.
‘The power of plants is amazing’
Silverstone told her 1.3 million followers: “Tom Brady is one of the most prominent athletes to embrace a primarily plant-based diet and credits it for allowing him to play competitively into his 40s. He wrote about his vegan inspired diet in his book TB12 Method.
“He has led his teams to nine Super Bowls in the past and holds the record as the quarterback with the most Super Bowl titles!
“These stats might make him one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time! I LOVE that he is so vocal about his diet. It shows people that plant-based diets can make you strong, powerful, and continue to thrive as you get older.”
The actor then added: “For all the meatheads who say you can’t be a man or play football and be a vegan at the same time… Tom Brady and a growing number of NFL athletes prove otherwise!!! The power of plants is amazing!!
Is Tom Brady vegan?
“When people ask if I’m a vegan or a vegetarian,” Brady says, “I tell them no, decidedly not.”
However, the star says that around 80 percent of his diet is plant-based, and in the months outside of the cold New England winter, vegan foods make up to 90-95 percent of his diet.
Moreover, he refers to a plant-based diet as ‘commonsensical’ and says while he does consume animal products, he tries to limit the amount of meat he eats.
“If anything, I subscribe to balance,” Brady adds.
Last year, the star partnered with plant-based meal-kit delivery company Purple Carrot. The company aims to ‘make vegan food to non-vegans’.
Purple Carrot also collaborated with Brady’s performance plan TB12 to offer plant-based options that are high in protein for those who lead an active lifestyle.
