American basketball player Hyland DeAndre Jordan Jr. is celebrating World Vegan Month this year with a ‘Meatless Monday’ challenge.
The athlete announced the challenge in a recent Instagram video, where he also urges his fans to ‘go vote’ in the upcoming U.S elections.
To participate, contestants are to tag Jordan in an Instagram photo of their meat-free dishes. He will choose one winner every Monday throughout November.
Winners will receive some of Jordan’s ‘favorite plant-based foods and sustainable items’.
‘My favorite vegan items’
“November is World Vegan Month and in the spirit of that, today I’m starting a meatless Monday challenge!” Jordan wrote.
“Every week I will select one winner to send some of my favorite plant-based vegan/ sustainable items.”
‘Healthy vegan meals’
Animal-rights charity PETA welcomed the challenge, saying it ‘loves the idea’ of Jordan sharing his favorite vegan products.
“Can’t wait to see all the delicious, healthy vegan meals people make every single day of the week!” the charity wrote.
When is World Vegan Month?
World Vegan Month runs throughout November and is an extension of World Vegan Day (November 1). It celebrates the explosive growth of veganism such as the increasing demand for plant-based foods.
