Tennis icon Venus Williams has just beaten British Player Johanna Konta in straight sets to reach the Wimbledon final – 20 years after her debut at the famous tournament.

Williams, who has previously spoken about how a raw vegan diet helps control a condition called Sjögren’s syndrome, is 37.

If she wins Saturday’s final against Garbine Muguruza, she will be the oldest winner since 1908.

Raw

According to Venus, who currently holds five Wimbledon titles, she has seen ‘a big difference’ in her health since adopting a raw plant-based diet.

Her condition – Sjögren’s syndrome is a debilitating and incurable autoimmune disease that causes excessive fatigue. She said: “[I eat] a lot of wheat grass shots, lots of fresh juices and things like that. As a professional athlete, if you have fatigue, then that’s tough.”

The final

Speaking after the semi final, which Williams won 6-4, 6-2, she said: “I couldn’t have asked for more but I’ll ask for more. One more win will be amazing. It won’t be a given but I’ll give it my all.

“I know [the crowd] love Jo and she gave it her all today. I think my experience helped a lot. I’m just so happy. Both Garbine and I play so well on grass. I’ll have to ask Serena [who defeated Muguruza in the 2015 final] for advice. I missed Serena terribly before the match. I wish she could do this for me.”
