A pescatarian says she was ‘sick’ after a Norwich pub accidentally served her chicken nuggets instead of scampi.
Jo Rose, who was eating a pub lunch with her husband, says she ‘hadn’t eaten meat for 30 years’.
‘Horrified’
According to Rose, she tucked into her lunch, but quickly realized something was wrong.
She told a local paper: “I chose the scampi for lunch and was really enjoying it.
“I put a piece in my mouth, I wasn’t looking at my plate as we were busy talking and laughing, but I quickly realized that something was horribly wrong.
“It wasn’t scampi, it was a chicken nugget, and it made me feel really sick as I hadn’t eaten a single piece of meat in 30 years.”
‘Too busy’
According to Rose, pub management was ‘too busy’ to speak to her about the mistake.
She said: “At the end of the meal they took £10 off our £30 bill, but they still didn’t seem to think it was important, that’s what really annoys us.”
Fish is meat
The story has provoked debate on social media, with a number of commentators asking the difference between ‘fish’ and ‘meat’.
One Facebook user wrote: “Fish don’t count cos they’re not cute and fluffy…therefore we can eat them but still feel pious and virtuous because we don’t eat mammals [sic].”
Another added: “I understand totally people not eating meat on principle. However, I don’t get how their conscience lets them eat fish. It’s still a living creature.”
‘Sorry’
A spokesperson for pub owner Greene King said: “We are very sorry for what happened.
“The pub was extremely busy and the isolated incident was down to human error.
“As soon as the mistake had been realized we apologised to the guest and offered a full refund.”
