The sister of the pilot who died in the Leicester City FC helicopter crash alongside her partner is raising money for a vegan charity ahead of the pair’s memorial on Thursday.
Pilots Eric Swaffer and Izabela Lechowicz, both passionate vegans, died after a helicopter they were flying crashed and exploded outside Leicester City Football Club stadium on October 27.
A memorial is planned this Thursday in Surrey. Attendants are asked to donate to the fundraiser instead of bringing flowers.
Vegan lifestyle
“Thank you for your kindness towards every little animal and sharing your passion for the vegan lifestyle,” Kate Lechowicz, who organized the fundraiser, wrote on the JustGiving page.
“You have been a true inspiration to so many people.
“Vegan Society was always close to your hearts and we believe that they are representing well your mission and beliefs. Fly high our special angels.”
Deeply missed
The couple was well-known and much loved within the vegan community.
“They stood for spirituality and plant-based living and were fantastic advocates for the world,” said Plant Based News Founder Klaus Mitchell, who was friends with the couple. “They will be deeply missed.”
He added that the couple has hosted a number of interviews between PBN and plant-based physician Dr. Milton Mills, as well as a meeting with The World Peace diet author Will Tuttle. These reached millions of people, helping thousands of lives.”
The Vegan Society
Ruby Jones, Fundraising and Partnerships Manager at The Vegan Society, added: “We are incredibly saddened that Eric and Izabela passed away in such tragic circumstances when they had their whole lives ahead of them.
“They both passionately used their voices to speak out for animal rights and they will be able to continue doing this thanks to the kind donations of their family and friends.
“We are honored that the pair were Vegan Society supporters and are grateful for their support.”
