Cruelty-Free Giant Lush Announces Decision To Go Completely Egg-Free

Cruelty-free brand, Lush, has announced it will be removing eggs from all its beauty products, in a bid to reduce suffering against animals.

The vegetarian company, well known for its opposition to animal testing, has reformulated six products that previously contained eggs, using ingredients such as silken tofu, soy yogurt, and aquafaba.

Reducing suffering

Lush UK announced the news on its Instagram, stating: “As of today, the Lush website is going completely egg-free! Unconvinced that even the very best egg production is free from suffering, we have removed eggs from all of our products, replacing them with great ingredients such as linseed and aquafaba so you still get the best results.

“The new Liverpool store is one of the first shops to get these new innovations with many more following in the following months, so check them out in store or go online. #EggFree #LushLiverpool #LushCosmetics.”

On an Instagram comment, Lush clarified that the new products will begin selling in stores once the old batches containing eggs sell out.

‘Egg-citing ingredient replacements’

Lush Cosmetics North American also celebrated the news, saying: “All of our products will now officially be egg-free. But never fear, your fave Lush goodies will be as effective as ever thanks to some egg-citing ingredient replacements.”

The brand, which claims 80 percent of its products are already vegan, has however, come under fire on social media for not making the full pledge to vegan – with some products still containing milk, honey, and lanolin.

Instagrammer Cat_snook wrote: “Get it all vegan. For industry leaders regarding animal testing and cruelty-free products, you’re still causing suffering to animals!

“You’re late to the vegan party guys! These steps are great, I just hope there are more to follow very soon.”
