Actor and animal advocate Evanna Lynch has tackled the issue of dysfunctional relationships with food in the latest episode of her Chickpeeps podcast.
The star – who created the podcast alongside actor Robbie Jarvis, crystal healer and ocean conservation activist Momoko Hill, and creator of The Protego Foundation, Tylor Starr – welcomes Jasmin Singer and Bianca Taylor as special guests.
Jasmin Singer, senior editor of leading vegan magazine VegNews, became vegan while already struggling with a binge-eating disorder. She wrote a book (Always Too Much and Never Enough) chronicling her experiences. Bianca Taylor is a fitness model and an online fitness coach who found veganism at the end of her eating disorder.
‘Difficult’
Lynch – who hosts this episode alongside Hill – acknowledges that the discussion around eating disorders and veganism is a difficult one.
She says: “For so many people, a history of eating disorders is what dissuades them from embracing veganism. This topic obviously won’t be for everyone as needless to say having, or having had, an eating disorder is not an inherent part of one’s vegan journey.
“The idea that veganism is another fancy eating disorder – as someone once told me – pervades in the minds of people who see the lifestyle as restrictive and radical. It’s what prevents many people from trying it, so I’d really like to address this topic.”
