American basketball player Michael Porter Jr., who is one of the top prospects in the 2018 NBA Draft, is transitioning to a raw vegan diet.

The 19-year-old Missouri five-star basketball recruit enjoys a wide range of raw plant-based dishes, including zucchini crust pizza and raw cinnamon buns – prepared by Doug Graham, a doctor of chiropractic medicine the Porter family hired.

Raw vegan

Porter Jr.’s mother, Lisa, hired Graham in a bid to help the family transition toward a raw lifestyle, in hopes of maximizing physical abilities.

“I just didn’t want to make any mistakes,” Lisa Porter told news outlet Kansas City about hiring the ‘performance consultant’.

“These boys are playing at a really high level.

“I didn’t want to leave anything unchecked,”she said, speaking about children Michael and Jontay, who are both preparing to play basketball for the University of Missouri.

“We’ve found that it helps our body recover,” 17-year-old Jontay Porter said of the raw vegan diet.

“We have more energy. We’re better on the court.”

Dishes

As part of the new diet, the Porters are now eating dishes such as zucchini pizza made out of zucchini slices, cinnamon buns prepared with dehydrated bananas, as well as kale chips.

Porter Jr. also enjoys smoothies: “I usually just put a couple bananas in there.

“Some strawberries, some mixed berries. Sometimes I’ll put almonds in there. Sometimes I’ll put spinach in there.

“I drink five or six big things a day.”

Committed to the plant-based diet – although his weakness is Chipotle – Porter Jr. told his mother that after he makes it to the NBA, he will be hiring a private vegan chef.
