Plant-based physician Dr. Gemma Newman is the latest guest on the Plant Based News podcast.
Dr. Newman has worked as a doctor, public speaker and plant-based advocate since 2004 and is the Senior Partner at The Orchard Surgery. She has appeared on television and written for publications including Glamour, Zest, and Good Housekeeping.
During the interview with PBN Co-founder Robbie Lockie, Dr. Newman spoke about why she opted for a plant-based diet, how animal agriculture is destroying the planet, and how you can care about animals – and still be objective about the power of a plant-based diet.
The power of plant-based diets
“There’s a tremendous amount of evidence dating back to the 1920s up to the current day which does show us that in fact having a predominantly whole food plant-based diet is extremely good for health and can potentially reverse and certainly slow down many of the chronic diseases we now suffer from,” she said.
“So that got me hooked and I just keep learning. I keep growing every day. I can’t say I know every single thing that there is to know because we don’t, as a scientific community – there’s much more we have yet to uncover.
“But from what I’ve so far found, the evidence is overwhelming, that a whole food plant-based diet is definitely the way forward.”
