Public toilets near a children’s playground in Wales are facing closure – but a vegan organization has stepped in with an unusual offer of help.

The block – near a children’s playground in Tywyn – is just one of 22 under threat because of budget constraints.

Conditional

Animal rights group PETA has stepped in and written to Gwynedd Council. It has offered to save the toilets by paying a fee to hang a banner that says, ‘Meat Stinks. Go Vegan’, on the outside of the building.

‘Stench’

PETA Director Elisa Allen says: “While public toilets are often known for having quite a stench, it’s the meat industry that is most foul.

“This win-win solution would help keep the toilets open while providing residents with an important reminder that when it comes to animals, our health, and the environment, meat really does stink.”

A Gwynedd Council spokesman confirmed the letter from Peta had been received, saying: “Officers will be responding to the proposal in due course.”

Furious

PETA’s offer follows fury about the plans to close the toilets. Residents argue that closing the block could force older people to walk further to find facilities.

More than 1,000 of these residents have signed a petition which has been handed to council officers.
