The job advert received angry feedback from vegans - Media Credit:

A company’s job advert saying ‘No vegans’ as a PR stunt has backfired.

Advertainment Media – a company in Kent – put up a vacancy advertisement for a video editor this week, which asked for ‘No vegans’ in a bid to generate attention.

Featured on job sites including Indeed, the ad has prompted vegans to take on social media to denounce the company’s move.

Response

Vegans have debated the issue on Facebook group ‘100% Vegan Products UK‘, with some even reporting the injustice to The Vegan Society.

The Equality Act 2010 in England, Wales, and Scotland clearly states that it is illegal to discriminate against people based on what they choose to eat.

Vegan Amy O’Brien, who also works in the media, told paper Kent Live: “Why even do that? Why even joke about discriminating against people?

“This kind of thing just creates divisions when there are none. It’s annoyed a lot of people,” she added.

The advert has been updated yesterday, saying: “[That] was intended to generate a bit of attention to increase number of applicants – but just to be clear, I don’t care what you do or don’t eat.”

Later, the advertisement was deleted.

The Vegan Society

Head of campaigns and policy at The Vegan Society said: “We contacted Advertainment Media about the advertisement, and the director called us to say that he only included the ‘No vegans’ line to get a response, and that he would be removing the advertisement.

“He said that it was a joke. The Vegan Society made clear to him that we consider the advertisement to be in breach of the Equality Act.”

The job advert also featured other curious aspects, such as: “What I’m really after are Vloggers/self shooters who want flexible hours, idk about training etc as my good editors came from no training, where as the rubbish ones are the ones with degree [sic].”
