Phliadelphia 76ers’ Jahlil Okafor has taken the plunge and gone plant-based in a bid to become healthy.
The 21-year-old professional athlete, who is a center for the Sixers, told media outlet Metro that he eschewed animal products ‘to diet and lose weight’ – and he’s down 20 pounds from last season.
Vegan
The 6-foot-11 center has made the diet change this offseason to shed some weight, as well as to become healthier and manage pain.
He says: “It wasn’t easy. The first drastic change I made was my diet. I became a vegan. I did it gradually. First I got rid of dairy and meat and my favorites, like cheese.”
Okafor also mentioned that he misses eggs and McDonald’s sausages – but says these foods are ‘a bunch of BS’, which he’s glad he cut out.
