Pro mixed martial fighter Nate Diaz has said he doesn’t recommend eating tofu on a plant-based diet.

The 32-year-old sportsman, who is an ‘on and off vegan’, explained why he doesn’t believe tofu is healthy during a recent appearance on Outside the Box podcast.

Plant based

Speaking about his plant-based diet, the athlete said: “I’m going on and off.

“I was a complete vegan for eight years, but I would dabble into some seafood every now and then.

“Now, I dig fish.”

‘Wack’

He explained why he doesn’t think tofu is a healthy food choice: “I would never recomend tofu. Everybody does that tofu thing, but that’s wack.

“Tofu’s not good for you. Yeah, they make tofu, that’s some b*tch-a** sh*t anyway. Why would you even want to eat something called that?”

“Everyone’s like, ‘I’ll take that tofu,’ but that sh*t actually lowers your testosterone. It makes you b*tch-made.”

‘No adverse effects’

But some experts have denied claims that soy products such as tofu, tempeh, or soy milk have any negative impacts on humans’ heath.

According to Physicians Committe for Responsible Medicine: “Soy products have no adverse effects on men and may help prevent cancer in men.

“A meta-analysis published in Fertility and Sterility, based on more than 50 treatment groups, showed that neither soy products nor isoflavone supplements from soy affect testosterone levels in men.

“An analysis of 14 studies published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition showed that increased intake of soy resulted in a 26 percent reduction in prostate cancer risk. Researchers found a 30 percent risk reduction with nonfermented soy products such as soymilk and tofu.”
