Vegan Cody Elkins, 13, has won the California State Junior Racquetball Championships in doubles.

Playing with his partner from the Junior Olympics, Camila Gomez, he won the intermediate division.

Elkins, who has been vegan since age two, won two singles matches and three in doubles. The doubles final was a tense event with Cody fighting back from what could have looked like a losing position.

‘Great’

“It felt great to win state championships” he said, “especially after coming back down from 14-10 to win 15 -14.”

Cody’s 18-year-old brother Dane won the advanced division.

Last year was a good one for Cody Elkins; he became world champion in his age group and was a finalist in Great Vegan Athlete of the Year.

He also took the opportunity to educate friends and family about veganism as he celebrated his Bar Mitzvah.

The young athlete is now planning to compete at the Junior Olympics in June.
